For many, the term sustainability can be elusive, recycling confusing, the science surrounding climate change overwhelming.

Inspired by her children, and with a background as an instructor, a vision of creating a simplified lesson plan suitable for the everyday person that would unite us to learn together, work together and make positive change together, also became a heart-driven project and story of HOPE.

The BTH Project® (BTH – Be The Hope) is a Trilogy hosting a Citizen Climate Action Plan, helping those wishing to address elements of sustainability collectively, inspiring us to reconnect as communities, and strengthening us to embrace the challenges of our changing world with greater confidence and resilience.

The BTH 12R’s® was created in early 2020, and immediately generated curiosity and interest due to its uniqueness and relevance. It has since been utilised in a wide variety of community and educational settings, generating a wave of positive behavioural change and becoming a growing grassroots movement.

Bottle Top Hill was founded in April 2021, showcasing to the public the BTH 12R’s® methodology-in-action, demonstrating how to ‘Think Global. Act Local‘, as well as providing a platform and networking forum for those also wishing to ‘be the change we want to see in the world’.

The Big Emu Bob® completes the BTH Trilogy and was launched with the broader community in March 2026. This initiative involves a fun and engaging character with a backstory that is hard to beat. It is also a story of every day people taking steps in their daily lives to help raise awareness on the impact of rubbish on the environment and in their communities. Through simple methods helping to address localised litter issues, their actions can also lead to supporting advocacy efforts Australia-wide, as well as improving physical, mental and social well-being.

Em is an instructor, presenter, facilitator, waste educator, citizen scientist, active volunteer and working mum simply devoted to her children, the next generation and the world that they will inherit.

As part of her dedication to encourage others to not just be the change, but also to Be The Hope, Em is now recognised as a Behavioural Change Agent, Storyteller of The BTH 12R’s®, Founder of the award-winning community service organisation, Bottle Top Hill Inc., creator of the Big Emu Bob®, and delivers talks and workshops upon request in schools, workplaces and community events across Australia.
